Getting your Maine fishing license for 2014 online is one option. You don't need to provide your SSN, like in a lot of places, but fees can go up to $6. If online commerce isn't for you, you can buy a license in person. They say you can buy one at "sporting goods stores, many convenience stores, and town clerks".

Free fishing days will take place on February 15 - 16, 2014 and May 31, 2014 and June 1, 2014. (That's every year in February the Saturday and Sunday preceding Presidents Day, and the weekend after Memorial Day.)
